A PIECE OF HEAVEN

COSTIERE E AREA FLEGREA

The Phlegraean supervolcano

The ancients identified it as one of the theaters of the Gigantomachie between the gods of Olympus and the giant sons of Gaea. In that ardent "phlegraean" land, the elements manifested themselves at their maximum destructive and creative force, alternating with periods of sudden restlessness as many phases of harmony and beauty lavish of gifts for men.

Mount Nuovo

Among the various Phlegraean eruptions reconstructed only thanks to geological research, one was told and documented in all its moments and manifestations by passionate chroniclers, who did not want to miss the opportunity to directly verify such a particular and spectacular natural event.

Mount Gauro

With its 331 meters, it's the highest volcanic relief of the Phlegraean Fields and for this reason the Greeks called it Gauro, "majestic". Formed ten thousand years ago, it rises just behind the city of Pozzuoli and is also known as Monte Barbaro, from the name of its highest peak, located to the south.
